Illuminated Manuscript

Illuminated manuscripts are texts, usually religious in nature, with supplemental decorations. They can be decorated with gold and silver, as well as paintings and calligraphy. The earliest surviving illuminated manuscripts are from 400 to 600 BCE from Italy and the Eastern Roman Empire. However, the majority of surviving illuminated manuscripts are from the Middle Ages, along with the Rennaisance and Late Antiquity.
