The theme of the course is the ways in which embodied neural systems' perceptual experience interacts with and coexists with the very different cultural models of the world which language also represents. Discuss, among other things, the ways in which "physical" domains such as space are subject to radically difference cultural construals, and the ways in which language-specific categories such as noun gender affect construal of everyday objects. Also learn about psychological models of human categorization and reasoning processes - including how they apply to cultural models.
