In recent decades modern discoveries and theories have refashioned our understanding of the book of Genesis.  Important aspects of this new understanding involve the recovery of the ancient Near Eastern context of Genesis, the impact of recent archaeological discoveries, new models of the literary history of Genesis, anthropological and literary approaches, theories of myth, and the legacy of ancient biblical interpretation.  Throughout we will be working on a close reading of Genesis.  All texts will be read in translation.
